Soda Blonde · 2023
Shot on 16mm. Built in two days, destroyed in ten minutes.
“For this video we wanted to explore the idea of ‘malfunction’. In an age of increasing automation, artificial intelligence etc, it’s easy to imagine the many ways things could go awry. But also, we just wanted to break stuff! Our talented & hardworking production designers built the set in 2 days, and we destroyed it in 10 mins of 16mm film.”
Written, directed, edited and graded by Adam O’Regan.

Written before anything was built.
INT. CORRIDOR — NIGHT (OPTIONAL INTRO)
Tracking CLOSE UP (CU) on a sledgehammer being dragged along a grimy apartment building corridor. Camera pulls out to reveal a young woman dressed in a long black trench coat, with gloves and sunglasses. She is immaculately put together — uber cool. She arrives at a door.
EXTREME CLOSE UP (ECU) — she pulls a hairpin from her hair, releases a long strand of hair to fall in front of her face — disrupting her immaculate composition.
ECU on the door handle. She picks the lock with the hairpin.
CUT TO:
INT. APARTMENT — NIGHT
Faye enters a dark apartment. She stands in the doorway, with a sledgehammer at her side, silhouetted by the light of the corridor. The TV is on, glowing with static.

Opening of the screenplay, as written.

A complete apartment, built inside a studio and dressed to be wrecked.
One set, one chance, ten minutes of film.
Shot on 16mm and developed at Kodak. A practical set that could only be destroyed once meant the coverage had to be planned as precisely as the destruction itself.

Composure, then the crack in it.

Ten minutes of film. No second take.

The same room, relit three ways.
